Reflection on the Pensacola Terrorist Attack

On Dec. 06, 2019 Saudi aviation student Mohammad Saeed Alshamrani opened fire at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.  The attack that was carried out once again exposed both the American government and the American media's numerous mistakes in the "War on Terror."

Mohammad was training to be a pilot in the Saudi Arabian air force.  Though Saudi Arabia is supposedly an "ally" of the United States, the nation serves as the base of Wahhabism, the most radical and prejudicial branch of Islamic theology in the Middle East.  The Wahhabist beliefs are the exact same beliefs followed by the Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas, and the Muslim Brotherhood.  All of which are terrorist groups known world-wide for their brutality and repression.  It should not come as a surprise that most of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Wahhabism.  With Wahhabism being the official doctrine that guides the society and leadership of Saudi Arabia, it should come as no surprise that members of the Saudi military have also been infected with this ideology, an ideology that teaches that the Judeo-Christian principles that guide the West are an abomination that must be fought.

Saudi Arabia is a nation not only known as the birthplace of Wahhabism, it is a nation that is responsible for some of the worst crimes against humanity.  It is a nation where the sex slavery of African and Asian women is very prevalent.  Torture and public beheading is commonplace.  The repression of women is rampant, freedom of religion does not exist, and dissidents of all kinds are often murdered.  These facts should make our Government Leaders realize that Saudi Arabia is not a good nation to sell weapons to, let alone provide with military training.  However, the U.S. government dropped the all even further by allowing a law that permits non-immigrants on a non-immigrant visa to obtain a hunting license.  This enabled Mohammad to legally obtain a gun, which is foolishness.  Although the right to bear arms is permitted in the U.S. Constitution, non-immigrants, even those who serve in military forces "allied" to the U.S. are not U.S. citizens and should not be granted any permission to purchase arms.  The Second Amendment rights should not apply to non-citizens who are temporarily residing in America, especially if they come from nations with known links.

The reaction of the American media was equally shameful.  After the attack, mainstream media was insistent that we must not jump to conclusions about the motives of the attack (this line of thinking did not prevent mainstream media from jumping to the wrong conclusion about the incident of the Covington Catholic Students in Washington DC in Jan. of 2019).

However, a study of Mohammad Saeed's Social Media Accounts revealed that this was in fact and Islamic Terrorist Attack.  Prior to the shooting, Mohammad posted his justification and used quotations from known terrorist leaders such as Osama bin Laden and Sheikh Anwar Al-Awlaki.  The media should instead be focusing on the ideology of Islamic terrorism and how people are indoctrinated into it.  After all, Sheikh Al-Awlaki was an American citizen, born in New Mexico, and for a time was the President of the Muslim Student Association at Colorado State University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering.  He later served as an Imam in Mosques in Denver, Virginia, and San Diego, as well as a Chaplain at George Washington University before he became a recruiter for al-Qaeda.  In addition, investigations revealed that Al-Awlaki's teachings directly motivated Major Nidal Hasan to carry out the Ft. Hood Massacre in 2009.

Less than one month after the attack, CNN reported that the U.S. government ordered the deportation of over a dozen Saudi servicemen.  Though they were not linked to the killer, Mohammad Saeed Alshamrani, they nonetheless were discovered to have connections to extremist movements and several were also found to be in possession of child pornography.  This attack should start serving as a wake up call to the American government, media, and public as a whole.  We need to change our gun laws and not allow non-immigrants in the U.S. to acquire guns, especially if they come from nations that preach open hostility to ours.  We need to rethink our military policies with Saudi Arabia.  Finally, we need to start understanding the ideology behind Islamic terrorism because this ideology is not only being promoted in Saudi Arabia, it's being promoted right in our own backyard.
