Communism is not Dead
Most in the world felt that the threat of World Communism died with the fall of the Berlin Wall, but it did not. Communism is very much alive in nations such as China, Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, & Laos. Communist FARC Rebels continue to terrorize the people of Columbia, and the Communist ideology continues to influence nations such as India, Nepal, & Eritrea. Communism was upheld by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels as the answer to corruption & greed. They believed it would eliminate conflict between classes and societal exploitation, it would essentially create a utopia on Earth. The tragic truth though is this: Communism has only created Hell on Earth. Communist and Communist-influenced countries around the world are rife with corruption, greed and gross social injustice.
Richard Wurmbrand, who spent 14 years in a Romanian Communist Prison testified that "Capitalism might have its evils, but it gives to the church the liberty to work at the salvation of souls, whereas Communism...uproots this." The reason for this is that Karl Marx wrote that religion was "the opium of the people," a tool used by capitalists to suppress the working class, and Marx was not alone in this belief. Vladimir Lenin announced repeatedly during the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia that he wanted to completely disestablish the Church, and Communist Leaders have followed this policy everywhere that they have obtained power.
Fidel Castro's Communist Cuba did not bring freedom to the people. The government controlled everything. People only received food through their ration books, private banking was abolished and remains abolished, and the government inventories everything that an individual owns; if the government deems that the individual has too much, then the government will confiscate what they please from that individual. Churches are continually spied on and pastors routinely rounded up for interrogation if they're suspected of preaching anything against the regime. Students who receive diplomas are forced to bow before a statue of Che Guevara before receiving their degree, and the government will deny their degree if they refuse to bow. Communist rebels in Nepal were responsible for instigating the Civil War that ravaged the nation for years. In the meantime, Eritrea and North Korea have been for years two of the worst nations in the world in terms of Christian persecution. Currently, Open Doors USA ranks Eritrea at #6 and North Korea at #1 on the list of Top 50 nations where it's most dangerous to be Christian.
The collapse of the Soviet Union gave many the belief that the Communist Threat was over. China began to get more involved in the world economy and started incorporating capitalist principles to their economic system and bolster the wealth and global image. However, while China may have embraced a freer economic market, the Communist Power Brokers still keep their people under severe repression. The Underground Church of China has suffered from severe persecution ever since the Communist Party under Mao Zedong obtainment of power, and that persecution only increased when Chinese Christians began breaking away from the Government Run "Three-Self Patriotic Movement Church" (A Government created Church that only focuses on praising the Regime & not teaching the Gospel) during the Cultural Revolution of the 1960's-70's/ The Chinese regime has since been responsible for destroying hundreds of churches while imprisoning Christians by the thousands in Re-Education Camps.
Everywhere Communism exists, it brings nothing but repression and blood. Though Communism was dealt a serious blow with its collapse in Eastern Europe, it is still very much alive, and amazingly, its ideas continue to remain popular among many in the West. It is time for us to realize the truth: Communism is not dead, and it is a direct threat to our Liberty and our Faith.
