Seek the "Bread of Life" and Avoid the "Junk Food."
In todays secular world, we constantly seek the truth, but we seldom receive it. People constantly say that "Truth is in the eye of the beholder" or "There is no absolute Truth except that nothing is absolutely true." We witness media outlets and political leaders who avoid speaking the truth and instead tell people who watch their networks and vote for them in political office what they want to hear. In the meantime, the people continue to turn to these various outlets and continue to eat what they give us. Unsurprisingly, they fall into the trap of "contentment" and fail to grasp the fact that the real Truth is so much greater than the Junk Food that they're being fed. The ironic thing is that the Israelites fell into the same trap when the Lord delivered them from Egypt. In the Book of Exodus 16:2-4:
"In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.
For generations, the Israelites had labored under the lash of the Egyptians, but many had grown content, for they felt that although they were lashed, at least they were fed. When the Lord delivered them, many could not handle what was now being given to them, so some desired to go back to what it was that they knew and had long been content with. However, when God rained Manna upon the Israelites he was showing them that they didn't need to long for what was. He showed them that no matter how difficult their trials became, He would be there, He would provide, and as long as they continued to follow him through whatever may come, they would be provided for and would ultimately find their way.
"Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father placed his seal of approval.” They asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
Jesus is telling us that He is the Bread of Life, He is Lord, and those who come to him will never hunger or thirst for the Truth, because He is the Truth. The answers that we seek to any issue that we face, is in Him. We don't need to turn to the media, the politicians, or the interest groups, we only need to Turn to Him. Do you think that the Egyptians really cared for the Israelites when they gave them food? By no means! The Israelites were there to serve the purpose of their masters. They gave them food in exchange for their support, their enslavement. It's the same way today. The media, politicians, the interest groups, they all claim that they have our issues at heart, but in truth, they don't desire to resolve our issues, they only seek to control us, to give us Junk Food in exchange for our support. Don't seek the food that ultimately spoils. Seek Christ, and you will have the Bread of Life! When you have Christ, you have Truth. For while the we see many in the world claiming to speak the Truth, Only Jesus ever said that "I am the Truth!" -John 14:16
