Palestinian Homosexual Decapitated in West Bank

The decapitated body of body of 25-year-old Ahmad Abu Murkhiyeh in the West Bank.  Two years ago Ahmad fled from Hebron to Tel Aviv to seek asylum as he feared persecution for his sexual orientation.  Upon arriving, Ahmad informed Israeli human rights activists that members of his family as well local villagers threatened to kill him and he was living in fear for his life.  For the next two years, Ahmad moved from shelter to shelter, working in restaurants to get by as he awaited resettlement to Canada.  Then on Wednesday, Oct. 05, Ahmed left the shelter for work, and he never returned.  His body was found near Hebron later that day.

Many in both Israel and the PA territories expressed outrage of Ahmed's murder, but sadly, Ahmad's situation is not an unusual one.  Today there are nearly a hundred documented cases of individuals like Ahmed fleeing PA controlled territories for Israel out of fearing persecution from PA authorities or murder at the hands of their Islamic fundamentalists who dominate the region.  However, many activists believe that the number of undocumented cases is much higher.  The PA authorities have on not only failed to take action on this persecution, but on numerous occasions they have threatened to arrest any who demand that the persecution stop.  For most homosexuals in the PA territories, their only option for survival is to seek asylum, but the process often takes years, and until they are able to leave, their lives are in constant danger.

At this time, no suspects have been identified or arrested.  However, all the evidence shows that this is a clear case of an honor killing, and in Islamic societies, honor killings typically go unpunished, and being homosexual is a death sentence in over a dozen Islamic nations, with extrajudicial punishments often being carried out throughout the regions with no repercussions.   Yet, many on the Left who claim to be the champions of Gay Rights, continually turn a blind eye to this reality.
