Authorities Stop ISIS Supporter from Carrying out Terrorist Attack at National Harbor
Rondell Henry, age 28 of Germantown Maryland was recently arrested by authorities for stealing a U Haul Van. Investigators revealed that Rondell was an ISIS supporter and was plotting to carry out a terrorist attack in Washington D.C. Officials state that Rondell's plan was to use the stolen truck to mow down pedestrians at the National Harbor. Rondell informed the authorities that “I was just going to keep driving and driving and driving. I wasn’t going to stop.” Rondell's plan was clearly inspired by the ISIS attack of Nice, France in which an ISIS terrorist ran a truck into crowds of French Civilians celebrating Bastille Day on July 14, 2016. This attack killed 86 people and injured over 400.
Authorities reveal that Rondell, a computer programmer, walked off his job on March 26th. He stole the U Haul after he determined that his Sedan would not do enough damage. Rondell first attempted to attack crowds at Dulles International Airport, but was unable to get past security. When he came to National Harbor, he determined that the crowd was not yet big enough as it was the early morning of weekday. Rondell then broke into a boat to hide, seemingly to wait until a more opportune time arrived, but by then the authorities caught up to him and arrested him before he could carry out the attack. Rondell stands to serve up to 10 years for stealing the U Haul, and it remains to be seen if terrorist charges will be filed against him as well.

This is not the first time that ISIS terrorists have been caught plotting in the State of Maryland. In December of 2015, Federal Authorities arrested Mohamed Elshinawy of Edgewood, MD for plotting to carry out an ISIS attack. Mohamed was a 30-year-old man who received approximately $8700 in funds from ISIS militants based in Egypt to carry out a terrorist attack. Fortunately, the authorities caught onto the suspicious wire transfers and arrested Mohamed in time. Unfortunately, these two cases illustrated that ISIS and other terrorists groups have the capacity to strike anywhere at any time, and nobody is safe from their hateful agenda.
