Burmese Military Shells Artillery Camp: 29 People Killed

On October 10th, 2023, the Burmese military carried out an artillery strike on a refugee camp near the country's border with China.  At least 29 people are confirmed dead, including women & children.  The attack was one of the deadliest massacres on civilians ever since the military seized power in a coup in 2021.  Many human rights activists are decrying the attack as a "crime against humanity."

The country has been embroiled in Civil War for 63 years, and the 2021 coup did not bring it to an end.  If anything, it expanded and got worse.  In this region the main conflict is between the Burmese military dictatorship and that Kachin Independence Army (KIA).  Insurgent attacks and military bombardments have become an ongoing reality in this region, and it shows no signs of ending.
