Jihadists Attack Christmas Services in Nigeria & Philippines

Across the world, many people celebrated the Christmas holiday, viewed as one of the most important holidays in the Christian faith.  Yet while much of the world celebrated, others would be mourning loved ones murdered in terrorist attacks.  On Dec. 03rd, 2023, ISIS militants bombed a Catholic Advent service in the gymnasium of Mindanao State University in the Southern-Philippine City of Marawi.  The blast, caused by a grenade or IED thrown into the assembly of worshippers killed four people and wounded an additional 42 (Link to Video).  Some suspect that this was in response to the Filipino military successfully carrying out an operation that eliminated 11 ISIS militants the previous week.

This region is no stranger to this kind of violence.  In May of 2017 a battle erupted in Marawi after ISIS militants seized control of portions of the city.  After a five-month battle, the Philippine Army finally defeated the ISIS terrorists and regained control of the city.  Sadly, what happened on Dec. 03rd in Marawi was only a foreshadowing of the horrors that were to follow in Nigeria.  Across central Nigeria, Jihadists attacked Christian villagers.  Armed with guns and machetes, the Jihadist militants along with Fulani sympathizers attacked and killed over 200 Nigerian Christians as they tried to celebrate the Christmas holiday.  Numerous homes were also burned down and many were left homeless.

Victims testified to the horror of the attack.  Grace Godwin was preparing for Christmas Eve dinner with her family when her husband burst into their home and told her to take their kids and flee to the fields.  Rebecca Maska testified how she was shot during the attack while her son had his hand hacked off by a militant.  Magit Macham testified that the Jihadists are trying to drive all Christians out of the region.  While some secularists try to blame the attack on "climate change" that they says if fueling "rising tension" and a fight over arable land, the truth is that the victims are attesting that these attacks are motivated by religious undertones.

Jihadists know to attack to Holiday events because they know that is when their targets will be gathered together.  These attack, which have sadly been ignored by much of the world's media, should serve as a warning that Jihadists are prepared to fight and kill their enemies, no matter where they are in the world, and that we must unite and fight back if we are to have any hope of stopping them.
