ISIS Terrorists in America's Heartland

Mirsad Ramic
When ISIS invaded Iraq & declared themselves a Caliphate, thousands Muslims from all over the globe went to the Middle East to join them in their fight, and the heartland of America was no exception.  In June of 2024 the U.S. District Court in Kentucky convicted Misrad Ramic, a resident of Bowling Green, of joining ISIS.  The court showed in in 2014 Misrad Ramic along with two students who attended Western Kentucky University on a student visa program flew from Nashville to Turkey & subsequently crossed the border into Syria to join ISIS.  Misrad is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 24th & faces a $750,000 fine and up to 50 years in prison.  As for the other two Western Kentucky Students, one is confirmed to have died while fighting in Syria in 2015 while the fate of the other one remains unknown.

Misrad Ramic in Syria
Misrad is originally from Bosnia & immigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was 10-years-old.  The other ISIS terrorists were confirmed to have been Syrian nationals in the U.S. who were attending Western Kentucky University on student visas.  While Misrad did not attend the University with them, the FBI revealed that he was in contact with the two students.  The courts further proved that Misrad participated in propaganda & training operations with ISIS in Syria before returning to Turkey in 2015, where the Turkish authorities arrested & incarcerated him for several years before deporting him back to the U.S.  In 2021, Misrad was indicted for his crimes.  Federal Authorities further revealed that the two Western Kentucky Students were radicalized by ISIS online propaganda and over time, made contact with Misrad & ultimately made their decision to go to Syria to join the terrorists group.  The authorities also revealed that while overseas Misrad detailed his exploits in emails & phots sent to his mother & other family members, including the photography on the right that shows Misrad standing in combat gear next to an ISIS truck armed with an anti-aircraft battery.

Though many are hoping that Misrad will spend his remaining years behind bars, his case nonetheless proves that ISIS is still very much active and they are everywhere.  Even more terrifying is the reality that the ISIS goals are not limited to Syria & the Middle East, their ambition is a global one.  One of the Western Kentucky students who joined Misrad sent an email to his University shortly after his departure to Syria in which he stated: "I am with the Islamic State.  In sha Allah [God Willing] when we conquer the U.S. I will look for you."  This threat clearly shows that these ISIS terrorists not only planned to one day take the fight to America itself, but they were prepared to single out specific people for death should this day in fact happen.  The world needs to start understanding that the Jihadists threat is not a regional issue, but a global one, and nobody is safe from it.
