Kainut Describes the Price of Embracing Jesus in Pakistan
Kainut is the Girl on the Far Right |
At the age of 14, Kainut lost her father to sickness, but her mother's abusive family forced her to marry his cousin against her will. Her new step-father tried to ban Christianity in his home completely, but Kainut ultimately decided to accept Jesus. However, her mother was fearful as this could mean her daughter's death at the hands of her abusive relatives. The priest was also reluctant, fearing for her life and the lives of his congregation members. However, when Kainut told him "Father, I am ready to die for Christ," the priest relented and baptized her.
Initially, things were OK. Her step-father granted a divorce to Kainut's mother and they lived in relative peace, but sometime later her ex-step father and some of his relatives tried to kidnap her and force her to marry a 54-year-old Muslim man (Kainut was 18 at the time). Fortunately the police chose to take action and stopped him. However, the threats continued and in 2017 one of her Muslim relatives shot her brother, who also accepted Christianity. Kainut, her mother, and siblings live in constant fear for their lives, but they're determined to not only keep their faith, but to serve humanity as well. Today Kainut is studying to become a doctor and is determined to live her life despite the constant threats on her life.
