Palestinians: Selective Outrage

When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, there are many who follow a policy of what is called "selective outrage."  Opponents of Israel often express outrage when Israel kills Palestinians Arabs in an effort to protect their nation from terrorism.  The Gaza border incident in the summer of 2018 is one such example.  Many vilified Israel for killing 62 Gazans, but they neglected to note that this was not Israeli soldiers firing on peaceful protesters.  These were thousands of people armed with guns, knives, and Molotov cocktails who attacked the Israeli border with full intention of killing people.  Nobody would call that a "peaceful protest" and any other nation in the world would have responded accordingly.  The opponents of Israel also ignored the fact that the terrorist organizations Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad confessed that of the 62 killed, 53 were fighters for their terrorist groups.

These same people not only ignore the constant terrorist threat that Israel faces, but they ignore how thousands of Palestinians have been murdered by other Arabs for centuries.  For instance, the Black September Massacres of 1970-71 witnessed thousands of Palestinian civilians being killed by the Jordanian Army.  The Syrian Civil War has seen over 4,000 Palestinians killed and the complete destruction of communities like the Yarmouk refugee camp, which went from 160,000 Palestinians at the beginning of the war, now it's virtually empty.  Now in yet another incident, 10 Palestinians have lost their lives to a rocket attack in Syria, four of which were children.

Attacks on Palestinians by other Arabs receive little attention from the media and are seldom discussed in depth at the United Nations.  This kind of selective outrage must stop.  Those who truly care for the well-being of Palestinians cannot obsess over their conflict with Israel while ignoring the ongoing atrocities committed against them by other Arabs.
