Some Accounts that Twitter Won't Ban

Twitter has a tendency of suspending, and in some cases, terminating accounts of individuals who they say violate their "hate and safety policies."  However, many have pointed out that Twitter has a very strange habit of allowing some users to keep posting hateful and violent content, but not others, namely because those individuals share the same political or societal views that the owners of Twitter follow.  Allow us to consider some examples.

Zabihullah Mujahid

For those of you who don't know, Zabihullah is the spokesman for the Taliban in Afghanistan.  His account has thousands of followers and likes to brag on Twitter about how many people he's recruited to his cause.  Never mind the fact that the Taliban has been responsible for numerous atrocities such as blowing up ancient statues of Buddha, attacking Mosques, killing aid workers, shooting girls in the head for wanting to go to school, and blowing the cars of women's rights activists.  However, Twitter can't ban the account of the spokesman of the Taliban because according to their logic, they don't know that the things he teaches to his followers encourages them to carry out this violent acts.  Actually, I think Twitter does know this, they just don't care.

Chinese Embassy in the U.S.

The Chinese Embassy not surprising spends much of its time spreading Chinese Communist Propaganda.  However, much of what the Chinese government says is a lie.  They lie to their own people on a regular basis and come up with the most egregious methods for silencing dissidents.  However, one day the Chinese Embassy took things too far.  For over a year nations around the world has condemned China for waging a campaign of genocide against the Uyghur Muslims in their nation.  However, in a Tweet, the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. tried to actually justify their actions by stating that the Concentration Camp system that they're putting the Uyghur's in is helping to "emancipate the minds of Uyghur Women and promote gender equality as well as promoting reproductive health so they're no longer baby-making machines."  Thankfully, Twitter had the sense to remove this tweet, but they have yet to ban the account of the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.

Slate

The media outlet Slate put out a Tweet saying that non-violence is an important tool for protests, but so is violence.  They then linked it to a podcast that goes into the history and necessity of violent protests.  So shouldn't Slate be suspended for "inciting violence?"  However, not only has Slate not had their account banned, or suspended, but their Tweet that praises the "necessity of violence" is still up.  Apparently Twitter has no problem with this outlet inciting and encouraging violence.

 Nicholas Maduro

The Infamous Socialist Dictator of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro is responsible for the execution of thousands of dissidents as well as the imprisonment of many thousands more.  Not to mention the fact that his disastrous Socialist policies have forced over 4 million Venezuelans into exile.  Has Nicholas Maduro had his account banned for all of his crimes against humanity?  Of course not!  Apparently, Twitter doesn't think the fact that this guy ordered the execution of thousands, forced four million people out of his nation, and is responsible for one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the history of South America deserves to have his account terminated.

To say that Twitter has a very strange standard on who to ban and who to not ban is a decisive understatement.
